Night & Day

Odub close to sending Golden Boy @ Solar Collector, 5.13b.

I’m in the Ol’ KY. And my first day shooting here it reminded me of some ground zero basics.
There are a lot of relationships with photography. Four simple ones that come to mind for climbing photography are these: the relationship with the climber, the route, the light, and your camera. You need to analyze all of these and they all need to come together. Last year when I was here the sun didn’t come out once. This year, right off the bat it was out and Odub was on Golden Boy- a well known route that glows in the sun. I had to get my fix. The shadows from the tree’s were creeping up the wall in a killer way. Next, Anthony was working a route on the opposing wall that was in the shade. The huge hueco holes seemed so primal, and I caught Anthony in a moment before he crept out. The contrast that was going on between the two walls was pretty awesome- kinda like night and day. Amped to to see what the rest of the week will bring.
